Consumer Technology Association Applauds Postponement of Fresh Tariffs

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) has applauded the decision by President Trump, not to impose new tariffs on Chinese products. In a press statement released by Gary Shapiro, President and CEO, CTA, it noted that the U.S. technology sector is already impacted by additional $1 billion per month due to tariffs on imports from China. The imposition of new tariffs would lead to shutdown of many small businesses and start ups, the press release noted. Furthermore, the Association called for a trade deal that would lead to removal of all tariffs.

Nearly 300 companies and business associations had come to Washington over the past few days to press their request to put an end to tariffs. In addition, more than 600 businesses across the U.S. had sent a letter to the President, in opposition of the tariffs.

According to CTA, imposition of taxes on Americans in the form of tariffs has created huge concerns on America’s job creators and workers. It highlighted the need for an enforceable trade deal with China, which in turn will eliminate existing tariffs and protects U.S. leadership and innovation.

The study commissioned by the Association had found that the Americans will have to pay between $50 and $120 more apiece on many of their favorite technology products. It had recommended the need for making a deal with China, so to eliminate further burden on American families.
