Connecticut Boosts Prices Paid to E-Waste Recyclers

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has announced substantial hike in recycling prices charged by processors for collected e-scrap. It must be noted that the state e-scrap program allows four processors- Ecovanta, ERI, Newtech Recycling and Take 2 to collect electronic scrap from customers. The revised rates will be in effect for the one-year period from July this year through June 2021.

According to latest press release by DEEP, Ecovanta’s recycling charge per pound of collected electronic scrap has been increased from 36.5 cents last year to 37.5 cents per pound. ERI will charge 39 cents per pound, higher from 37.5 cents per pound during the previous year. Newtech’s per pound recycling charges have been hiked from 39.5 cents to 40.5 cents. Also, Take 2 will charge 40 cents per pound, up from 38 cents. The fee covers the costs of transportation and recycling of covered electronics.

The approved separation fee (in cents) per pound for Ecovanta, ERI, Newtech Recycling and Take 2 are 29, 30, 34.5 and 40 respectively. The Department noted that e-waste recycling volumes by the above four companies totalled 20,537 pounds, 369,820 pounds, 2.981 million pounds and 6.083 million pounds respectively.
