CFSEI to host webinar on Cold-Formed Steel Lateral Systems

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) plans to host a webinar on “Cold-Formed Steel Lateral Systems” on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. Architects, Engineers, Building officials and Contractors are being invited to attend the webinar.

The web-based seminar using “Go To Meeting” Technology comprises of 1+ hour of lecture, followed by discussions and questions. The total duration of the webinar will be 1.5 hours. Jeff Ellis, P.E., S.E., Director of Codes and Standards for Simpson Strong-Tie Company Inc. will conduct the webinar.

The webinar will cover common inquiries regarding cold-formed steel framed seismic force-resisting systems, including: floor framing systems, overturning restraint options, wall stud bracing design, use of the overstrength factor, Ωo, and anchorage of the overturning restraint system to concrete.

The cost of registration per computer screen for CFSEI and SFA members is $75 and that for non-members is $100. Registrations must be received 48 hours prior to the webinar. Late registrations will attract additional fee of $20.

Ellis currently serves as President-Elect for the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) and as a member of the International Code Council Evaluation Service Board of Managers. He served two years as chairman of the SEAOSC Buildings At Risk Summit Committee, three years as chairman of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Committee on Framing Standards Lateral Design Subcommittee, three years on the CFSEI Board of Directors, and one year as CFSEI president. 

 

The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute comprises hundreds of structural engineers and other design professionals who are finding a better way to produce safe and efficient designs for commercial and residential structures with cold-formed steel. CFSEI members work together to develop and evolve industry standards and design methods, produce and issue technical bulletins, and provide seminars and online training to improve the knowledge and skills base of engineers and design professionals.
