Cascades Announces Extension of Green Initiatives to Ontario Facilities

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Cascades, Inc. has announced extension of its transportation electrification program so as to include all its Ontario employees. The announcement was made during a ceremony held at the Company’s Ottawa sorting centre, in the presence of renowned environmental leader Dr. David Suzuki.

The program will encourage its Ontario employees to switch from gas to electric or hybrid vehicles, in an attempt to reduce environmental footprint and is expected to benefit around 2,200 employees. This follows the successful implementation of a similar program among its Quebec employees in November 2017. Since then, nearly 5 Cascade employees have joined the program per month. The number of employees who have chosen to ride electric has surged higher from 5 to 80 since the launch of the program.

According to company press release, it plans to set up 30 new 240-volt charging stations at its Ontario facilities. This is in addition to the 80 charging stations already installed in Quebec. Any employee, who purchases an electric vehicle, will be awarded a financial contribution of up to $2,000. This is on top of the government grants, it said.

Mario Plourde, President and CEO of Cascades stated that the unique program could bring in drastic change in transportation habits, which in turn could result in substantial reduction of GHG gas emissions. Since 1990, the company has been successful in reducing overall GHG emissions by almost 50%.
