SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Canfor Corporation announced a temporary reduction in production in its British Columbia (BC) mills. The company cited challenging market conditions as the reason behind the decision.
Accordingly, the company plans to implement a two-week curtailment beginning September 26, 2022 at most of the solid wood facilities in the region. This will be followed by the resumption of reduced operating schedules until the end of the current year. The decision is likely to reduce Canfor’s production capacity by approximately 20 million board feet, the press release said.

Announcing the decision, Don Kayne, President and CEO, Canfor noted that the company has been forced to temporarily curtail its production in BC due to reduced market demand. The company will leverage its global operating platform to prioritize the requirements of its customers, Kayne added.
Canfor announced that the employees will be provided the opportunity to work during the downtime to complete maintenance projects and other site activities. This in turn will limit the impact of production curtailment on employees, it noted.
Earlier, the company had announced reduced operating schedules at its Swedish facilities effective 12th September, 2022 due to falling market demand.
