Call2Recycle Declared Record-Breaking U.S. Battery Collection in 2020

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Call2Recycle- the battery stewardship initiative reported a year of record-breaking battery collection during 2020. The collection of used batteries for recycling in the U.S. surpassed 3,700 tonnes during the year, considerably up by 11% over the prior year. Also, primary battery collections skyrocketed by 77%, when compared with 2019.

Linda Gabor, Executive Vice President-External Relations, Call2Recycle said that it had planned for an increase in collection based on a number of strategies, but the 11% surge in the midst of coronavirus outbreak was quite unexpected. The increased collections are mainly attributed to the contingency plans implemented to minimize program disruptions as well as various precautions taken to mitigate risks.

Call2Recycle maintained regular operations across the U.S., with Covid-19 only directly affecting its staff mildly. The company offered remote technology solutions to its customers, thus maintaining a high level of service. However, the pandemic prevented it from launching new service offerings.

It had undertaken public education and awareness campaigns during these times to encourage consumers from visiting recycling locations and instead urging them to store them safely till recycling options become widely available again.
