The Federation points out that Britain could possibly lead the world in transforming to a circular economy for plastics, provided it takes a complete approach. By using right approach to deal with plastics, the country could achieve over 50% reduction in volume of exported plastic waste. Simultaneously, the plastic waste ending up in landfills could drop significantly by 94% to only 1% in the next ten years. The UK could achieve 65% and 75% recycling rate for all plastic and plastic packaging respectively by 2030.

The report proposes a total of 16 changes to the existing system, including additional investment in UK recycling systems, promotion of local plastic waste collection schemes, increased use of recycled materials in new products and creation of recycling awareness among citizens.
