BPF, UKRI Explores Opportunities to Boost UK Plastic Recycling

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The British Plastic Federation (BPF) will join hands with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to support the nation’s plastic supply chain. The partnership will explore new opportunities in creating more sustainable and easy-to-recycle alternative packaging solutions. The initiative will offer two training courses on sustainable use of plastic, which will be accessible to all participants of the entire plastics packaging supply chain.

The latest course titled ‘Plastic Packaging- Understanding the Environmental Issues’ is aimed at educating staff at retailers, brands and manufacturers about the hurdles in its journey to reduce plastic packaging waste. The course will be available for £25 until the end of this month.

Earlier this week, BPF released two new reports on sustainability and plastic recycling in the UK. The first one titled ‘Sustainability in the Plastics Supply Chain’ addresses key environmental issues in the plastics industry. The second report, ‘Recycling Roadmap’, visualizes expansion of the UK recycling industry over the next decade.

Philip Law, Director-General, BPF noted that the new course assists companies in educating their employees about key issues faced by their business.

Paul Davidson, Challenge Director, UKRI Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge said that the course will help to reduce the environmental cost of plastic packaging.
