SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): The Healthy Harbor Initiative is celebrating ten years of cleaner water this year, thanks to Baltimore’s Trash Wheel family. Mr. Trash Wheel first arrived in Baltimore in May 2014. Three other trash wheels have since followed.
“In 2023, we’ve collected more trash than we ever have in a single year, mostly because we now have four trash wheels that are fully operational,” Adam Lindquist of Healthy Harbor Initiative said. “We’ve got more devices out there intercepting trash. We’ve almost collected a million pounds of trash in 2023.”
The trash-collecting aquatic vessels also provided data to help pass legislation, including banning styrofoam takeout containers in the state and a plastic bag ban in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.
