SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Bacardi- the American spirits company has come up with a new solution to replace its traditional spirit bottles with new bioplastic material. The outcome is considered to be the result of years of hard work undertaken by the company to replace its bottles made of petroleum-based plastics, which were found to cause serious environmental challenges.
According to company announcement, it plans to start using bottles made with a new bioplastic material called Nodax PHA. The new bottles are said to be biodegradable in compost piles, special landfills and even oceans. The company stated the development as a significant feat of achievement to its innovative research projects in partnership with Danimer Scientific.

Bacardi noted that bottles made with Nodax PHA will decompose in almost 18 months in an environment where there is microbial activity. This compares with the traditional bottle, which is believed to take 400 years to biodegrade.
However, for the project to be successful, there should be a nationwide composting system, without which most of these will end up in recycling bins, which in turn may affect the recycling process. Another option left is Bacardi building its own facilities to manage recycling of these bottles.
