SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Contrecœur, Quebec-based ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada, a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal, announced its decision to acquire the assets of Legault Metal Inc. - a leading metals recycling company in the region.

According to company press release, the acquisition covers several of the Legault facilities throughout Quebec, including the ones at Trécesson, Val d'Or, Rouyn-Noranda and La Sarre in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. These acquired sites will now operate under a new division, which will continue to serve scrap dealers and individual customers as before.

François Perras, chief executive officer for ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada welcomed Legault Métal Inc. into the organization. He noted that the acquisition will help the company to reinforce its presence in the Quebec scrap recycling market. Furthermore, it will help secure its supply of raw materials from the region, in addition to strengthening its value chain. Also, Perras expressed excitement in extending the company’s footprint to Abitibi.

Gerry Legault, owner of Legault Métal Inc. stated that the transaction is the best possible outcome for its 100 odd employees, suppliers as well as the entire community. ArcelorMittal would be the best partner to maintain the activities of the largest recycling company in Abitibi, he added.

Legault will work in partnership with ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada to ensure a smooth transition of operations over the coming months.
