U.S. Court of International Trade Affirms Final Determinations on Aluminum Foil

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Aluminum Association applauded the recent decision by the U.S. Court of International Trade with regards to the appeal on imports of certain aluminum foil from China. The decision had affirmed virtually all of the U.S. DOC’s final antidumping determinations on aluminum foil imports.

Commenting on the decision, Lauren Wilk, Vice President for Policy and International Trade, Aluminum Association said that it is pleased that bulk of the final antidumping determinations are affirmed. The court decision reinforces the critical role played by rules in a functioning global trading system. The association and its member companies will continue to back targeted trade enforcement orders, which has proved to deliver meaningful and positive impact on U.S. aluminum manufacturers, Wilk added.

According to the Association, tools such as antidumping and countervailing duty investigations have led to a sharp decline in unfairly traded Chinese imports into the U.S. in key aluminum segments. The Association will continue to carefully monitor global trade flows so as to ensure level playing field for domestic aluminum producers in the country not only within the North American market, but also in the global market.

The trade body warned that failure to directly address China’s unfairly subsidized overcapacity will lead to distortion of global market for primary aluminum and aluminum products, which in turn will negatively impact U.S. aluminum producers.
