Altech Recycling to Construct New Arkansas Metals Separation Plant

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Scrap processor and trading major Alter Trading Corp. announced that it has partnered with Toyota Tsusho America Inc. (TAI) to form Altech Recycling LLC. The partnership will build a new metals separation plant on Central Airport Road in North Little Rock, Arkansas, which will process shredded scrap into aluminum products, which in turn will be supplied to other business partners in the North American region.

Jack Grundfest, senior vice president and chief administrative officer of Alter noted that Alter Trading and Toyota Tsusho have a longstanding relationship and the joint venture is the next logical step for both the companies. The partnership benefits both parties on a number of levels, he added.

The new plant will convert mixed-metal shredded scrap grade zorba. The heavy media plant will produce two main products from the zorba it processes- a clean aluminum product known as twitch and secondary products known as heavies. The majority of twitch produced by the plant will be supplied to Toyota Tsusho’s domestic facilities, whereas heavies will be mainly exported for further processing.

The plant will initially employ approximately 25 people and is scheduled to begin operations in Q2 this year.
