Alliance to End Plastic Waste Expands Global Footprint by Adding New Members

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) welcomed 12 new members to its fold. The addition of members, from across the plastics value chain, is expected to strengthen the Alliance’s presence in Asia. Furthermore, this will help in speedy delivery of innovative solutions to end plastic waste.

The 12 companies who have become part of the coalition are EQUATE Petrochemical Company, Gemini Corporation, Grupo Phoenix, Mondi, Novolex, PepsiCo, Sealed Air Corporation, Sinopec, SKC co., ltd., Storopack, TOMRA, and Westlake Chemical Corporation. The Alliance now includes 39 companies around the world.

David Taylor, Chairman, AEPW acknowledged that plastic waste in environment is a serious and growing problem. The Alliance, by way of comprehensive approach involving all stakeholders, is committed to bring forth sustainable solutions, he said. He noted that the member companies have already committed in excess of $1 billion to fight plastic waste. It aims to invest over $1.5 billion over the next five years, he added.

The Alliance focuses on four key areas- Infrastructure Development, Innovation, Education and Engagement and Clean Up. It supports affected regions through development of waste disposal infrastructure. Investments are also made in new recycling technologies. The Alliance also gives key importance to raising awareness on impacts of plastic waste. Finally it also concentrates on safe disposal of accumulated plastic in waterways including oceans and rivers.
