AISI: Steel Shipments Down 5.2% in June

The year-to-date steel shipments by the U.S. mills recorded marginal increase by 1.9% over 2018 to total 48.223 million net tons until June in 2019.

AISI: Steel Shipments Down 5.2% in June

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that U.S. steel shipments registered marginal decline over the prior month as well as the corresponding month a year before.

According to AISI data, the U.S. steel mill shipments totaled 7.718 million net tons (NT) for the month of June this year. This is down by 5.2% when compared with the prior month. The shipments had totaled 8.142 million NT in May this year. When matched with June last year, the shipments were down by 3.4%. The U.S. steel mill shipments had totaled 7.988 million NT in June 2018.

A comparison of shipments in the month of June this year with the prior month indicates notable decline in shipment volumes of hot rolled sheets and cold rolled sheets, which registered decline by 6% and 5% respectively. On the other hand, hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip shipments were up by 2% in June 2019.

The year-to-date steel shipments by the U.S. mills recorded marginal increase by 1.9% over 2018 to total 48.223 million net tons until June in 2019. This compares with the shipment of 47.304 million net tons during the corresponding six months in 2018.
