SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced publication of domestic raw steel production data for the most recent week.
In accordance with the weekly data, the U.S. domestic raw steel production totalled 1.907 million net tons in the week ending on February 15, 2020. This compares with the production of 1.917 million net tons in the corresponding week a year before and 1.899 million net tons during the prior week. The weekly output was down marginally by 0.5% over the year, whereas it edged higher slightly by 0.4% from the previous week.
The U.S. steel mill capability utilization rate was 81.8% in the week ending on February 15, 2020, higher from 81.4% in the prior week and lower when matched with 82.4% in the year-ago week.

The raw steel production tonnage for the year-to-date period through February 15, 2020 totalled 12.575 million net tons at a capability utilization rate of 82.1%. This is upon comparison with the production of 12.395 million net tons at a capacity utilization rate of 81.3% during the similar year-to-date period in 2019.
The leading raw steel producer was the Southern region, whose output totalled 717,000 net tons. The production by other regions, in thousand net tons, is as follows: North East (233), Great Lakes (684), Midwest (202) and Western (71).
