Trade Association Announced Latest Printing-Writing Paper Monthly Report

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released printing-writing monthly report for the month of September 2020.

According to the report, the total printing-writing paper shipments registered 21% decline during the month, compared to September 2019. Meantime, the U.S. purchases of total printing-writing papers were down by 20% from the same month last year. The printing-writing inventory levels declined 7% from the previous month.

AF&PA reported that uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper shipments decreased 19 percent compared to September 2019, while the inventory level dipped by 6% month-on-month. The purchases of coated free sheet (CFS) papers in September decreased 12 percent compared to last September. The inventory levels have dropped by 10%. The largest decline was seen in coated mechanical (CM) paper shipments, which reported 31% year-on-year decline. The U.S. purchases of uncoated mechanical papers too were down by 28%.

The total packaging papers & specialty packaging shipments in September surged higher by 14%. The operating rate was 93.7%. The mill inventories at the end of September dipped by 3,000 short tons from the previous month. Upon comparison with the previous year, the inventories surged higher by 12,000 short tons. The packaging papers & specialty packaging shipments until September this year were up 4%.
