AF&PA Records 5% Surge in U.S. Containerboard Production

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) announced the U.S packaging paper export statistics for the month of September this year.

The total boxboard production registered marginal decline by 0.9%, upon comparison with September last year. The recycled boxboard production too declined during the month. On the other hand, the U.S. containerboard production was up by 4.9% over the previous year. The production for export increased for the third straight month. The monthly production was 19.8% higher than September last year. Also, the year-to-date production too climbed higher by 1.3%, said AF&PA monthly figures.

The U.S. printing-writing paper shipments recorded sharp decline by 13% in September, as compared with the previous year. The printing-writing paper inventory levels decreased over the month. The shipments of uncoated mechanical paper decreased 26% year-over-year in September. The shipments of coated mechanical papers too dropped. Also, shipment volumes of uncoated free sheet and coated free sheet paper recorded decline.

The U.S. packaging paper shipments surged higher by over 5.7% in September this year, as compared with the previous year. The cumulative shipments during Jan-Sep ’18 too were up by 2.6%. Multiwall shipments continued to remain flat. The bag & sack shipments and food wrapping shipments were up by 4.9% and 2.8% year-on-year. Meantime, the converting shipments too were up slightly by 1%.
