$5.5 Million Capital Injection Secures Hundreds of Sawmill Jobs in Ontario

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The province’s investment has helped to create and protect around 100 local jobs and modernize the operations at an Ontario sawmill. The investments are expected to boost the domestic sales and exports at Ben Hokum & Son Ltd sawmill. Incidentally, the provincial government had promised investment at the mill facility located at 28 Elm St, Killaloe over a period of five years.

After a tour of the facility, John Yakabuski, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry stated that he is pleased to see how the sawmill facility has supported local employment and the economy. The success story of the mill has delivered immense rewards to related parties including harvesters and manufacturing companies. Broadly, the multi-million dollar investment in the company is considered by the province as an investment in the community and the entire forestry sector of the province, Yakabuski noted.

Meantime, Dean Felhaber, President of Ben Hokum & Son Ltd said that the investment has helped in creation of more opportunities for youth and the entire population in the rural eastern Ontario region. The strong support extended by the government of Ontario will contribute to the bright future of communities who depend on forestry for their livelihood.

As per estimates, Ontario’s forestry sector generates approximately $15 billion in revenues, supporting nearly 150,000 direct and indirect jobs in the province.
