$180 Million Investment to Double Novelis' Aluminum Plant Capacity

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Atlanta-headquartered aluminum rolling and recycling major Novelis, Inc., owned by Hindalco Industries, announced official groundbreaking of its expansion project at Changzhou, China automotive aluminum manufacturing facility. The $180 million investment aims to double the plant’s aluminum sheet production capacity. The expansion is expected to create around 160 jobs and will be completed by 2020.

The proposed investment comprises of installation of a high-speed slitter and a fully automated packaging line, which in turn will help the company to boost its production of innovative aluminum solutions to automotive manufacturers. This will enhance the plant’s collaboration with automotive manufacturers, by offering them high performance aluminum products towards development of safer, stronger and lighter vehicles.

Satish Pai, Managing Director of Hindalco Industries noted that the expansion work reaffirms its continued confidence in the ever-growing automotive market in the region. Further, it testifies the company’s ongoing commitment to its customers and the communities in which they serve. The plant will continue to play a critical role in supporting the next generation of automotive innovation and design by creating new products and processes to meet the industry’s evolving needs, he added.

Located in the heart of the Changzhou National Hi-Tech District, the Changzhou plant is the company’s first wholly-owned aluminum automotive sheet manufacturing facility in China.
