US weekly raw steel production rises 1% during the week ended mid-June

As per the statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the raw steel production in the country inched higher during the week ended June 15th

NEW YORK (Scrap Monster) : As per the statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the raw steel production in the country inched higher during the week ended June 15th.

The total raw steel output during the week was 1,870,000 net tons. The AISI data indicates that the US raw steel production has inched higher by 1.0% during the week ended June 15th. This is in comparison with the previous week (ie., the week ended June 8th )  production figures of 1,851,000 net tons. However, the weekly output has declined by 0.4% in comparison with same week the previous year. The total production during the same period last year was 1,862,000 net tons.

The capacity utilization rate of US steel makers was 78.1% during the week ended June 15th .  

The capacity utilization has marginally increased when compared to 77.3% during the previous week ( ie., the week ended June 8th ). Also, the capacity utilization has improved when compared to that of same week a year ago. The capacity utilization of US steel mills a year ago for the same period was 74.8%.

AISI determines its weekly raw steel production data based on weekly data from 50% of the domestic industry and estimates the rest using monthly production data.
