The BIR Convention 2013 conducted a special workshop on electronic scrap to announce the formation of a new Electronic Scrap Committee

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster) : The BIR Convention 2013 conducted a special workshop on electronic scrap to announce the formation of a new Electronic Scrap Committee.

The new committee would be headed by Phar Oscar- the Chief Executive Officer at Stena Technoworld AB based in Sweden. The committee will operate under the BIR Non-ferrous Metals division and would strive to raise the profile of e-scrap.

The newly formed E-Scrap Committee would focus on identifying best practice and policies with regard to e-scrap, helping companies and authorities assess the various and many certification standards and programmes in use nationally and globally and examining the various standards being applied to e-scrap and help educate the industry and authorities about them.

The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) welcomed the formation of the new committee. The ISRI believes that ban on exports would not resolve the issue of electronic scrap. At the same time, the export of used electronic products (UEPs) destined to landfill or incineration must be strictly banned.

The 2013 BIR World Recycling Convention & Exposition was held at the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel in Shanghai May 27-29.
