TOKYO (Scrap Monster) : As per the latest statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, the country reported an year-on-year increase in scrap exports and decrease in scrap imports during the month of April.
The country’s total scrap imports during the month of April were 17,000 tons, which is 17% lower than the imports during April 2012. The major exporter of scrap to Japan was Korea. The scrap import from Korea totaled 6,700 tons in April, increasing by 25.6% year-on-year. The total scrap imports from Taiwan touched 4,100 tons, surging by 54.7%. At the same time, the country’s scrap imports from the US fell by 29.9% year-on-year to 3,700 tons. The cumulative scrap imports by Japan during the first four months of the year amounted to 61,000 tons, dropping by 31% in comparison with the initial four months in 2012.
The country’s total scrap exports during the month of April were 882,000 tons, which is 23.4% higher than the exports during April 2012. The major export destination was Korea. The scrap exports to Korea totaled 549,000 tons in April, increasing by 38.2% year-on-year. The cumulative scrap exports by Japan during the first four months of the year amounted to 3.32 million tons, increasing by 24.7% in comparison with the initial four months in 2012.
