North American crude steel output dips 5.7% year-on-year during April

According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production in North America dropped by 5.7% during the month of April year-on-year
BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster) : According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production in North America dropped by 5.7% during the month of April year-on-year. The report further states that the global crude steel production for 63 member countries was 132 million tonnes(Mt) in April this year,1.2% higher than the production during same month the previous year.
The total crude steel production by Canada during April was 1.160 Million tonnes(Mt), marginally less than the April 2012 production of 1.165 Mt. US produced 7.258 Million tonnes of crude steel, lesser when compared to 7.829 Million tonnes production achieved during April 2012. The Cuban crude steel production also slipped considerably from 28,000 tonnes to 20,000 tonnes.The total crude steel production by Trinidad and Tobago dropped from 60,000 tonnes in April 2012 to 52,000 tonnes in April this year.
Only El Salvador recorded higher output year-on-year. The crude steel output by El Salvador was 8,000 tonnes in April this year higher from 6,000 tonnes during April last year. Guatemala and Mexico also witnessed lower production during the month. Guatemala produced 25,000 tonnes in April lesser than 26,000 tonnes produced in April last year.The crude steel output by Mexico was lower in April this year at 1.545 Million tonnes from 1.568 Million tonnes in the same month the previous year.
