Global crude steel production rose 1.2% in April : Worldsteel

According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production for 63 member countries was 132 million tonnes (Mt) in April this year,1.2 % higher than the production during same month the previous year

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster) : According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production for 63 member countries was 132 million tonnes (Mt) in April this year,1.2 % higher than the production during same month the previous year.

The total crude steel production by EU-27 countries during April was 14.066 Million tonnes(Mt), lesser than the April 2012 production of 14.785 Mt by 4.9%. Other European countries produced 3.032 Million tonnes of crude steel, lesser by 1.6% when compared to 3.081 Million tonnes production achieved during April 2012. The CIS countries’ crude steel production also slipped by 6.9% from 9.570 Mt  to 8.909 Mt. The total crude steel production by North America dropped by 5.7% from 10.682 Mt in April 2012 to 10.068 Mt  in April this year.

The total crude steel production by South America during April was 3.947 Million tonnes(Mt), lesser than the April 2012 production of 4.071 Mt by 3.0%. Africa/Middle East countries produced 3.090 Million tonnes of crude steel, lower by 4.3% when compared to 3.229 Million tonnes production achieved during April 2012. The Asian countries’ crude steel production increased by 4.7% from 84.603 Mt  to 88.537 Mt. The total crude steel production by Oceania region declined by 3.8% from 0.485 Mt in April 2012 to 0.467 Mt  in April this year.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first four months in 2013 in comparison with those during same period in 2012.
