Turkish hot rolled coil exports surge 54% in Q1 2013

The recently published statistics by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) indicates that the exports of hot rolled coils (HRC) by the country witnessed sharp upsurge during the first quarter of 2013

ANKARA (Scrap Monster) : The recently published statistics by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) indicates that the exports of hot rolled coils (HRC) by the country witnessed sharp upsurge during the first quarter of 2013.

As per TUIK, the country’s HRC exports during Q1 totaled 435,672 tons. The exports during the quarter surged 53.4% when compared to the exports during the previous quarter (Q4 2012). Also the exports have almost tripled in comparison with the exports during the same quarter a year ago.

However, the country’s HRC exports during the month of March totaled 140,210 tons, lower by 22.7% from the previous month. The HRC exports from the country during February this year had surged by almost 60% to reach 181,384 tons from the January exports of 114,078 tons.

The main export destination of Turkish HRC during the quarter was Italy, accounting for almost 45% of the total exports. The exports to Italy skyrocketed five-folds year-on-year to touch 196,260 tons. A similar surge was witnessed in exports to Portugal.
