US Steel mill shipments rise to 7.9 million nt during March

WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster) : The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)-the association of North American steel producers, has published the monthly statistics for US steel mill shipments Thursday.
The country’s total steel mill shipments during the month of March rose 6.5% in comparison with the total steel shipments in February. The country’s total steel mill shipment during March 2013 was 7.9 million net tons, up from February’s shipment of 7.4 million net tons. However, the net shipments during the month have decreased by 6.9% from the 8.5 million net tons shipped during same month the previous year.
The cumulative steel shipments for the first three months of the year totaled to 23.6 million net tons, which is 7.3% lower than the 25.4 million net tons shipment recorded during the same period of three months in 2012.
The product with the biggest rise in shipments month-on-month was hot-rolled sheets. The shipments of hot-rolled sheets were up 7% month-on-month. Hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip shipments recorded an increase of 2%. Cold rolled steel shipments remained unchanged during March.
