Mexican Q1 steel products output grew higher by 3.4%, says Canacero

PUEBLA (Scrap Monster) : As per the data released by the Mexican National Chamber of Iron and Steel (Canacero), the steel products output during the first quarter of the year increased year-on-year.
The country’s total steel output during the quarter touched 4.7 million tons, 4.4% higher in comparison with the total output of 4.5 million tons during the same period a year ago.
Tin sheet and line pipe for oil use saw the largest growth in production rising by 66.6% and 51.6% respectively year-on-year. The other products that witnessed increased production are structural and mechanical welded pipes, chrome sheet and piling for structural use which recorded growth of 41.7%, 28.3% and 28.1% respectively.
On the other hand, the production of commercial profiles, welded line pipe for water use and bars were down by 28.9%, 29.6% and 12.4% respectively
The country’s import of steel products was down by 20%. The total imports during the quarter were 2.04 million tons when compared to 2.5 million tons imported during same period last year.
The country’s exports of steel products were up 18% during the quarter. The total exports during the quarter were 1.3 million tons when compared to 1.1 million tons exported during same period last year.
