ANKARA (Scrap Monster) : According to the latest statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the import of steel flat products by the country surged hugely during the first quarter of the year.
The country’s total imports of steel flat products during the quarter amounted to 1.5 million tons. The imports have clocked a jump of 38.3% when compared to those during same month the previous year. The import revenues also witnessed a corresponding jump. The total import revenues generated during the first quarter were $ 1 billion, which is higher by 22.9% year-on-year.
Turkey’s total import of steel flat products during the month of March was 567,015 tons. This is 22% higher from the imports during the previous month. On a year-on-year comparison, the total imports have surged by whopping 60.5%.
The import revenues generated by steel flat products during the month of March were $378 million. The import revenues have registered a growth of 22.8% month-on-month and 41.9% year-on-year.
The above includes hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow steel strip steel flat products.
