NEW YORK (Scrap Monster): The United States used lead-acid battery prices stand at 40-42 cents per pound (lb) this week, said buyers. Some see the price for the scrap commodities falling further lower by next month.

The impact from a lethal combination of Hurricane Sandy and winter storm systems that slashed through the Northeast this week could delay transportation of scrap batteries from scrapyards and dealer centers by a week or more.

Another potential impact from the storm is a likely spike in battery demand as companies deploy backup power generators, sources said, which is in turn likely to keep an improving scrap supply steady.
