Global Zinc markets in surplus of 273000 tons in Jan-May: WBMS

Zinc markets were in surplus of 273000 tons in first five months of this year compared to a full year surplus of 551000 tonnes in 2011, as per latest report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS).
LONDON (Scrap Monster): Zinc markets were in surplus of 273000 tons in first five months of this year compared to a full year surplus of 551000 tonnes in 2011, as per latest report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS).
According to the WBMS report, the first five months showed Zinc stocks rising by 90700 tonnes, with all the increase in LME warehouses.
Global refined Zinc production declined by 3.1% while the consumption declined by 3% in the first five months of the year, they added.
China apparent consumption stood at 2.14 million tonnes in Jan-May 2012. This comprised of 44% of the total demand. The total world Zinc demand was 154000 tonnes lower than last year.
