The South Indian state of Tamilnadu is moving quickly ahead to curb unauthorised recycling of battery produts that poses a a major health hazard to people.

CHENNAI (Scrap Monster): The South Indian state of Tamilnadu is moving quickly ahead to curb unauthorised recycling of battery produts that poses a a major health hazard to people.

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board will regulatre manufacturing and handling of batter products in the State, Times of India reported.

Amending the Batteries (Management and Handling Rule) 2001, the pollution control board will also ask manufacturers to restrict the sale of battery products to authorised dealers.  State Government aims to curb unauthorised melting of old batteries.

TNPCB is also planning to train recyclers on a safe melting process. There are 19 battery manufacturers in the state, most of them in Coimbatore, Hosur, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram and there are large number of recycling units these areas requiring the authorities to regulate their activities.
