About Company

Champagne Edition Inc., founded by CEO, Alan Champagne, branded Eco-Flex® Recycled Rubber Solutions back in 1992. The company is an industry leader in the recycling of Canadian passenger car tires and the manufacturing of high value, end use, recycled rubber products which are sold throughout Canada and the world. The company operates out of a 35,000-foot manufacturing facility situated 30 minutes north of Edmonton, Alberta.

Eco-Flex recycles the rubber from 2.5 - 3 million discarded tires per year. All raw material is Western Canada based (ALBERTA), however the company anticipates outsourcing raw material in the future based on increased consumer demand for Eco-Flex's quality recycled products. To date the company has been responsible for recycling over 50 million passenger car tires.

LEED Credits for Eco-Flex® Products

LEED™ Credit 1.1-Innovation in Design – Eco-Flex provides a wide variety of paving solutions as alternatives to concrete, interlock brick and asphalt. Eco-Flex’ end use innovative products ensure that recycled rubber is utilized in the most valuable manner for the environment and the world.

Intent: To provide design teams and projects the opportunity to be awarded points for exceptional performance above the requirements set by the LEED Green Building Rating System and/or innovative performance in Green Building categories not specifically addressed by LEED. Requirement: Identify the intent of the proposed innovation credit, the proposed requirement for compliance, the proposed submittals to demonstrate compliance, and the design approach (strategies) that might be used to meet the requirements.

LEED™ Credit 4.1, 4.2 - Recycled Content-Eco-Flex products qualify due to the fact that they are made of 100% recycled content (scrap tires).

Intent: Increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials, thereby reducing the impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials. Requirement: Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes 10% or 20% (based on cost) of the total value of the materials in the project.

LEED™ Credit 5.1, 5.2 - Regional Materials-Eco-Flex is manufactured in Legal, Alberta and qualify for this credit depending on project location.

Intent: Increase demand for building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured within the region, thereby supporting the use of indigenous resources and reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation. Requirement: Use building products that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the project site for minimum of 10% or 20% (based on cost) of the total materials value. If only a fraction of the product is extracted, harvested or recovered and manufactured locally, then only that percentage (by weight) shall contribute to the regional value.

LEED ™ Credit 6.1, 6.2 - Storm Water Design – the grooved design of the Eco-Flex mats, which direct water towards the edges, combined with the optional permeability of the installed surface contributes to qualifying for this credit when combined with additional storm water management solutions.

Intent: Limit disruption of natural water hydrology by reducing impervious cover, increasing on-site infiltration, reducing or eliminating pollution from storm water runoff, and eliminating contaminants. Requirement: Implement a storm water management plan that decreases the volume of storm water runoff from the one or two-year 24-hour design storm, reduces impervious cover, promotes infiltration, and captures and treats the storm water runoff using acceptable best management practices.

LEED™ Credit 7.1 – Heat Island Effect- Eco-Flex products can qualify due to the combination of the optional open grid paving system and/or shaded area requirements. SRI Data is pending.

Intent: Reduce heat islands (thermal gradient differences between developed and undeveloped areas) to minimize impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat. Requirement: Provide any combination of the following for 50% of the site hardscape: shade (within 5 years occupancy), paving materials with a Solar Reflectance Index of at least 29, open grid pavement system. Or, place a minimum of 50% of parking spaces under cover. Any roof used to shade covered parking must have an SRI of at least 29.

All credits apply for New Construction (LEED-NC) and LEED for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB)
