The Steel Statistical Year Book 2015 published by the World Steel Association provides detailed statistics of steel scrap trade during the past decade.

WSA: Global scrap imports rose 5% during ten-year period ending 2014

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (WSA) has published the Steel Statistical Year Book 2015 which features the steel activity during the past decade. Included in the Year Book is the detailed statistics of steel scrap trade during the ten year period from 2005 to 2014. The world steel scrap imports totaled 95.283 Mt in 2014, higher by 4.65% when matched with the exports of 91.050 Mt recorded ten years back.

The steel scrap imports by EU-28 countries in 2014 was 31.926 Million tonnes (Mt), lower by almost 12.92% when matched with the imports of 36.661Mt in 2005. On the other hand, other European countries witnessed sharp jump in scrap import trade from 11.209 Mt in 2005 to 20.058 Mt in 2014. The scrap imports by CIS region dropped sharply during the ten-year period. The imports by the region plunged heavily from 2.287 in 2005 to 1.665 Mt in 2014.

The scrap imports by North American region witnessed considerable decline from 6.921 Mt in 2005 to 6.661 Mt in 2014. The South American scrap imports almost tripled from 200,000 tons to 598,000 tons in 2014. African scrap imports more than doubled over the ten-year period. Middle East scrap imports increased from 330,000 tons in 2005 to 1.161 Mt in 2014. Asian region reported drop in scrap imports. The imports by the region totaled 29.724 Mt in 2014, when matched with 31.911 Mt in 2005. The scrap imports by Oceania region too increased during this period.
