Tata Steel Europe won the ‘Excellence in Life Cycle Assessment’ award for the creation of an Environmental Product Declaration Programme, that demonstrates the use of steel as an extremely sustainable product.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has announced the winners of the 8th Steelie Awards. The Steelies were awarded during the annual dinner of the association held 16th October in Brussels. The awards, in seven different categories, recognize member companies and individuals for their outstanding contribution to the steel industry over the past one year.

Tata Steel Limited was announced the winner under the category ‘Steel Industry Website of the Year’ for their website http://www.tatasteel.com. The winner was selected after thorough review of all membership sites by worldsteel expert panel and external communications experts. The websites were judged based on five criteria- overall design, loading and page delivery, information range and relevance, navigation ease, and use of new technologies.

POSCO’s ‘Deep learning technology for innovating steel manufacturing processes’ won the ‘Innovation of the Year’ award. The other shortlisted projects in the category included Jindal Steel and Power’s Conversion of an existing Electric Arc Furnace to a Neo Electric oxy furnace, JSW’s Development of AHSS for automotive steels and superior grade of electrical steel, HBIS’s Research and Application of waste heat on-line water quenching technology on 100 metre-rail and voestalpine’s Highly efficient inline bonded electric motor cores for e-mobility.

The Excellence in Sustainability Award was won by ArcelorMittal Tubarão and Usiminas for development of road paving products, REVSOL and REVSOL Plus using steelmaking slag, which were used as primary paving layer in nearly 650 kilometres of previously unpaved rural roads of Brazil. The project also paved nearly 750 kilometres of rural and urban road using SIDERBRITA-a slag road-coating product.

Tata Steel Europe won the ‘Excellence in Life Cycle Assessment’ award for the creation of an Environmental Product Declaration Programme, that demonstrates the use of steel as an extremely sustainable product. The ‘Excellence in Education and Training’ award went to Nucor Corporation for implementing a training program that helped in successfully eliminating serious injuries and fatalities.

Micheal Pooler of The Financial Times was selected as the ‘Journalist of the Year’. Also, Guoqiang MA, Chairman, China Baowu Steel Group Corporation Limited won the ‘Industry Communicator of the Year’ award.
