DRI production statistics

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in July this year has increased modestly by nearly 5.4% when compared with the month before that.

The world DRI production during the month of July 2016 totaled 4.559 million metric tons, compared with the 4.326 million metric tons production achieved during June this year.

According to World Steel data, Iran ranked first in DRI production, closely followed by India. Mexico was the third largest DRI producer nation in July this year.

The estimated DRI output by Iran during July this year was 1.252 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output in July declined by 9.6% when compared with the previous month. The DRI output by Iran had totaled 1.385 million metric tons during the previous month. India’s DRI production in July 2016 totaled 1.228 million metric tons, which is significantly higher by over 16% when compared with the previous month output of 1.056 million metric tons. The Mexican DRI output in May this year amounted to 540,000 metric tons, which is higher by nearly 3.25% when compared with the output of 523,000 metric tons during June 2016.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other eleven countries in July 2016 is as follows: Canada (153), Saudi Arabia (420), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (41), Peru (Nil), Venezuela (30), Egypt (245), Libya (45), South Africa (49), Qatar (200) and United Arab Emirates (356).
