World Steel Association announces launch of 9th steelChallenge

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): World Steel Association (worldsteel) has announced the launch of steelChallenge-9. The Regional Championship Round will be held on 19th November, 2014 and the World Championship Round on 11th February, 2015.

The 9th steelChallenge championship will be held in two categories-Student and Industry. Each team must comprise of only two members.

The 24-hour long regional championship will be held online from 12:00 GMT, 19 November 2014. The participants will be challenged with the task of producing cost-effective specific steel grades using the basic oxygen steelmaking simulation available at steeluniversity.org. The participants are allowed to make any number of attempts within the stipulated time.

The regional champions for both categories will be selected from the following regions- (a) North & South America, (b) Europe, CIS, Middle East & Africa, (c) Asia & Oceania, excluding China, and (d) China. They will participate in the world championships which will be held in Brussels on 11th Feb, 2015. The World Champions in each category will be awarded cash prizes, trophies and certificates.

The 2014 World champions in the ‘Industry’ category were Animesh Kumar Singh, and Kausik Tamuli of Tata Steel India. Francisco Brañas and Casalini Ezio from the Universidad Nacional del Sur, Argentina turned out to be the 2014 world champions in the ‘Student’ category.
