World crude steel production expanded 1.1% in 2014

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the most recent statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by 65 member countries was 1,636.960 million tonnes (Mt) in 2014, marginally up by 1.1% in comparison with the production during 2013.

The total crude steel production by EU-28 countries during 2014 was 169.243 Million tonnes (Mt), 1.8% higher than 2013 production of 166.311 Mt. Other European countries produced 36.194 Million tonnes of crude steel, down 0.8% when compared to 36.477 Million tonnes production achieved during 2013. The CIS countries’ crude steel production dropped by 2.8% from 108.083 Mt to 105.089 Mt. The total crude steel production by North America was up by 2.0% from 118.876 Mt in 2013 to 121.247 Mt in 2014.

The total crude steel production by South American region during 2014 declined marginally by 1.4% to 45.201 Mt. African countries produced 15.579 Million tonnes of crude steel, 0.7% down when compared to 15.694 Million tonnes production achieved during 2013. The total crude steel production by the Middle East countries during 2014 was 28.059 Million tonnes(Mt), higher by 7.9% when compared with the 2013 output of 26.007 Mt. The Asian countries’ crude steel production too increased marginally by 1.4% from 1,095.598 Mt to 1,110.860 Mt. The total crude steel production by Oceania region dropped by 1.8% from 5.588 Mt in 2013 to 5.488 Mt in 2014.
