MONTREAL (Scrap Monster) : The e-waste collection efforts by Wisconsin has touched 100 million pounds landmark within three years of operation.

The e-waste recycling effort by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is known as E-Cycle Wisconsin has 400 registered collection centres which accepts used electronics such as discarded TVs, computers, monitors, keyboards, stereos, VCRs, cellphones, gaming devices, DVD players, fax machines, microwaves and other electronic items.

More than 24 million pounds of old TVs were collected in Wisconsin in the year ending June 30, 2012.DNR has urged the Wisconsin residents to join the recycling efforts of the State by taking advantage of hundreds of collection centers spread across the State.

E-Cycle Wisconsin takes a product stewardship approach to electronics recycling. Each year, manufacturers of products covered by Wisconsin's electronics recycling law must pay for electronics to be recycled. This funding makes it easier for individuals and schools to recycle old electronics.

The E-Cycle Wisconsin program is supported by Wisconsin's electronics recycling law, which bans electronics such as TVs, computers and cell phones from Wisconsin landfills and incinerators.
