SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Texas-headquartered integrated waste services company Waste Connections, Inc. has announced acquisition of Illinois-based Groot Industries, Inc.
According to Ronald J. Mittelstaedt, chief executive officer and chairman, the addition of Groot to its portfolio will help the company to solidify its leading position in these markets. Further, the company will benefit by Groot’s increased disposal volumes to its landfills. The acquisition will serve as a platform for additional growth opportunities, Mittelstaedt added. He stated that Groot's support and commitments to its employees, customers, and the communities it serves throughout four generations of family ownership will be further strengthened under Waste Connection’s stewardship.
Waste Connections typically targets secondary and rural markets to garner a higher local market share, which would be difficult to attain in more competitive urban markets. The company focuses on increasing market penetration and offering additional services to capitalize on future drilling opportunities in those areas. Waste Connections also aims to leverage its franchise-based platforms to expand customer base beyond the exclusive market territories. Earlier in June 2016, the company had merged with its rival Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd.
As per the terms of the acquisition deal, Jon Groot and Ryan Brandsma will continue to lead the operations of Groot.
Meantime, Groot Industries noted that the company is excited to join the Waste Connections family. The leadership team, decentralized operating environment and growth focus of Waste Connections makes it the best fit for Groot. The company will be able to carry on the Groot name within its markets, the statement noted.
