Virginia scrap metal recycling firm breaks ground on new facility

FALLS CHURCH (Scrap Monster): The Virginia-based Potomac Metals Inc. (PMI) has broken ground on its new facility in Ashburn. The facility is expected to be operational by first half next year. The construction of the new facility will be carried out by Baltimore-based Merrit Construction Services.

The Ashburn facility will have a 65,000 square foot building for its operations. Additionally, a 3,000 square foot mezzanine area will serve as office space. The facility will also have expandable customized warehouses. Once operational, the company plans to raise the total staff strength by at least 15%. According to Potomac, the new facility at a centralized location could help them better serve the existing customers.

The new facility will feature a heavy-duty two-ram baler equipped with two 100-horsepower motors for processing scrap metal, two full-size truck scales, multiple ground buy/sell scale platforms linked to Potomac Metals’ scale data software and an electric material handler that generates zero emissions.

Established in 1997, PMI is a privately held independent scrap metal recycling company. The company provides a multitude of drive-in, onsite mobile pickup and roll-off services to residential, commercial, industrial and retail accounts. Currently, it operates seven separate facilities spread over 50+ acres of land and employing nearly 150 employees.
