TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla (Scrap Monster): The first of nine e-waste recycling rallies hosted by Verizon Wireless across the country was held on Jan. 24 at the company's facility in Temple Terrace, Fla., according to the company.
Last year, Verizon collected more than 531,000 pounds of e-waste that was recycled and kept out of landfills. Verizon's recycling rallies operate with a zero-landfill goal, meaning that all the materials collected will either be reused or recycled, according to the statement.
"E-waste can be tricky, so we're making it easy and convenient for our employees and people in many of the communities we serve to dispose of electronics in an environmentally friendly manner," said James Gowen, Verizon's chief sustainability officer, in the statement. "It's a valuable service, but it also helps raise awareness of environmental practices that can be easy to adopt but impactful."
Verizon locations hosting recycling rallies this year includes: Albuquerque, N.M., Wilmington, N.C., Charleston, S.C., and Ashburn, Va. The rallies are open to both Verizon employees and the general public.
