Verizon Diverts 2 Million Pounds of E-Waste, Sets New Goal

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Verizon today achieved its goal to collect 2 million pound of electronic waste, reaching its 2015 target eight months early.

The company also set a new goal: to collect another 2 million pounds of e-waste by 2020.

Verizon met its earlier five-year e-waste goal during today’s e-waste recycling rally in Wilmington, North Carolina. The company says it has collected and kept from entering landfills about 200,000 pounds of e-waste in the area to date, preventing devices’ toxic materials — such as lead, arsenic, beryllium and mercury — to leach into the environment.

Since 2009, Verizon has hosted recycling rallies in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Virginia.
