ONTARIO(Scrap Monster): The world’s second biggest mining giant Vale has reported that it will shut down the Frood nickel mine in Canada by the end of this year due to sluggish demand caused by the uncertain global economy and dropped prices for the base metal.
Cory McPhee, vice president of corporate affairs at Vale Canada said that Frood has been operating for more than a century. The 85 workers at the mine will be move to other mines.
Vales planned to increase output at other mines in Canada in order to make up the Frood’s annual output of 3,200 tons of nickels and 2,900 tons of copper.
