US scrap plastics exports slip by over 8% in July

According to latest government data, the exports of scrap plastic by the US declined sharply over the previous month in July this year.

US scrap plastics exports slip by over 8% in July

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to latest government data, the exports of scrap plastic by the US dropped sharply during the month of July this year, in comparison with the previous month. The exports had witnessed slight increase during the month of June when matched with the month before. On the other hand, cumulative scrap plastic exports by the country during Jan-July ’15 remained higher over the previous year.

The country’s exports of plastic scrap during the month of July 2015 totaled 414.24 million pounds. When compared with the exports during the previous month, the volume of exports was down considerably by 8.3%. Also, exports registered a modest increase of 4.8% when compared with those during July 2014. The US plastic scrap exports had totaled 395.27 million pounds during July ‘14.

The weighted price of scrap plastic exports during July this year amounted to 17.96 cents per pound. The weighted price saw marginal decline of 0.1% from June 2015 levels. The weighted price of scrap plastic exports during June ‘15 had amounted to 17.98 cents per pound. Upon comparison with July 2014, the weighted price registered a decline of 8.5%.

The US exports of recovered plastic during the initial seven-month period of the year amounted to 2.81 billion pounds. The exports were up by 3.1% when compared with the exports during the corresponding seven-month period in 2014.

The average price of scrap plastic exports during the period from January through July in 2015 was 18.33 cents per pound, which is 6.8% down year-on-year.
