US scrap exports see sharp decline in April

The scrap exports by the US declined sharply during the month of April this year. The exports had increased slightly during the month before it.The US scrap exports totaled 1.167 million tons during Apr '15.

US scrap exports see sharp decline in April

ALBANY (Scrap Monster): The scrap exports by the US during the month of April this year declined considerably, according to the latest trade data released by the US International Trade Commission. The scrap exports by the country which had been in a declining trend since the start of the New Year, had rebounded slightly in March.

As per data, the country’s scrap exports totaled 1.167 million tons during Apr ‘15. The exports were down by 12.9% when compared with the exports during the same month a year ago. The US scrap exports during April 2014 had totaled 1.34 million tons. When compared with the previous month exports of 1.23 million tons, the scrap exports during Apr ’15 were down nearly 5.12%.

The largest export destination of US scrap was Turkey. The US scrap exports to Turkey totaled 304,000 tons in Apr ‘15. The scrap exports to Turkey accounted for nearly 26% of the total scrap exports by the US during the month. The US scrap exports to Turkey during Mar ’15 had totaled 215,000 tons.

The second largest importer of US scrap was Taiwan. The US scrap exports to Taiwan totaled 264,000 tons, growing significantly by nearly 15% when compared with the exports of 229,000 tons during the previous month. In third place was South Korea with 98,000 tons.

The cumulative scrap exports during the initial four months of the year totaled 4.42 million tons, down by 7.2% when compared with the exports made by the country during the corresponding four-month period in 2014.

The projected scrap exports by the country for the whole year 2015 stands at 13.26 million tons.
