US plastic scrap exports rose marginally during H1 2015

US plastic scrap exports rose 2.5% during the first half of 2015. The exports during the month of June were higher by 11.6% year-on-year.

US plastic scrap exports rose marginally during H1 2015

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to the latest Trade Online data, the plastic scrap exports from the US increased marginally during the initial six-month period of the year 2015. Also, exports during the month of June recorded year-on-year increase.

The US plastic scrap exports during Jan-June ’15 totaled 1,090,799 metric tons. This is 2.5% higher when compared with the exports of 1,063,613 metric tons during the first half of 2014. The exports during the month of June 2015 totaled 206,803 metric tons, rising significantly by 11.6% over the previous year. The US plastic scrap exports had totaled 184,674 metric tons in June last year.

According to government data, the exports of category of plastic scrap excluding PET witnessed significant surge during the period. This “other” plastic scrap export jumped higher by 43% year-on-year. The rise in other plastic scrap exports helped the country to maintain increased export levels during the month of June this year.

The largest destination of US scrap plastic exports during June this year was China. The scrap plastic exports by the US to China totaled 95,343 metric tons, accounting for 46.3% of the total scrap plastic export by the US during the month. Meantime, plastic scrap exports to the US reported 4.1% jump when matched with the previous year.

According to US ITC, the country’s plastics scrap shipments are most likely to remain strong during the rest of the year. It forecasts increased Chinese appetite for US plastics scrap during the second half of the year.
