US Mint 2012 Presidential Dollar sales hit 19 mln so far

NEW YORK (Scrap Monster): The presidential dollar sales of US Mint reaches 19,381,900 as on reports till September 17, 2012 as per latest sales report released by US Mint.

The cumulative sales comprises of 7,667,475 Chester Arthur Dollars, 6,580,225 Grover Cleveland Dollars, and 5,134,200 Benjamin Harrison Dollars.

The fourth release of the year featuring Grover Cleveland's second term is expected to be released on November 15, 2012, which will provide another boost to the total.

Each release by US Mint will remain available for purchase for one year from the original issue date which will allow plenty of time for the sales totals to continue to grow.

The US Treasury Department has suspended the production of Presidential Dollars for circulation in December 2011.The announcement came following reports of a hoard of 1.4 billion $1 coins held at Federal Reserve Banks and total annual production of 297 million for 2011.

The Presidential Dollars are produced only in the limited quantities necessary to meet collector demand by US Mint in 2012. The Mint had estimated that approximately 5 million circulation strikes for each release would be necessary to meet demand.

An expanded line of products now including 25-coin rolls, 250-coin boxes, 500-coin boxes, and 100-coin bags was offered starting with the 21st release of the series featuring Chester Arthur. Collector orders quickly surpassed the Mint's initial estimates and have continued to grow.
