SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)- the association of North American steel producers indicates that the US steel mill shipments edged higher by 2.4% in July 2014 over the previous month. Also, the shipments in July this year were up by 2.6% when compared with the figures recorded during same month the previous year.
According to AISI, the US steel mills shipment for the month of July totaled 8,492,744 net tons, 2.4% higher when compared to the total shipments of 8,291,823 net tons during June this year. Also, the steel shipments in July have increased significantly over the year. The July 2014 steel shipments were up 2.6% when compared with the 8,274,511 net tons shipment during July 2013.
The US steel shipments year-to-date was up 2.9% at 57.270 million net tons as against 55.676 million tons shipment during the corresponding seven-month period in 2013.
The products which witnessed sizable changes in shipments during the month of July when compared with the previous month were: hot rolled sheet (up by 3%), hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip (down 0.4%), and cold rolled sheet (down 0.2%).
