US Brass Mill Products Trade Gained Further Momentum in July

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The most recent trade statistics published by the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council (CBFC) suggests that the exports of brass mill products by the US increased considerably during the month of July 2017 upon comparison with the previous year. The imports also recorded substantial rise during the month. The US recorded rise in exports, imports during the initial seven-month period of the current year.

Imports-July ‘17

The imports of brass mill products by the US totaled 43.753 million lb during July this year. The imports were up by 3.5% when compared with the imports of 42.291 million lb during the same month a year before.

Germany was the largest supplier of brass mill products to the US during the month. The imports from that country totaled 10.366 million lb. South Korea turned out to be the second largest exporter of brass mill products to the US with exports totaling 4.847 million lb. The other countries which accounted for US imports were Mexico (4.676 million lb), Vietnam (3.494 million lb) and Canada (3.463 million lb).

The US imported 14.399 million lb of sheet, strip, plate and foil products during the month of July this year. All pipe and tube products imports totaled 15.565 million lb. The imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 10.258 million lb. Also, imports of copper alloy wire by the US totaled 3.531 million lb.

Exports-July ‘17

The country’s brass mill product exports totaled 20.802 million lb during July 2017. This is significantly higher by more than 11% when matched with the shipments during the same month a year before. It must be noted that the country’s brass mill products export had totaled only 18.710 million lb.

The leading export destination of US brass mill products during the month was Mexico. The exports to Mexico totaled 8.045 million lb. In second place was Canada (5.604 million lb), followed by Saudi Arabia (1.334 million lb). The other key importers during the month were South Korea (919,514 lb) and China (933,677 lb).

Exports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 8.543 million lb in July this year. All pipe and tube products exports totaled 4.723 million lb. Exports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 6.088 million lb. Copper alloy wire exports totaled 1.448 million lb.

Jan-July ’17 Imports, Exports   

The cumulative imports of brass mill products by the US during the initial seven-month period of the year totaled 289.586 million lb, up by 6% over the corresponding period last year. The country’s imports had totaled 273.564 million lb during the corresponding seven-month period in 2016.

The cumulative exports surged higher by over 12% from 139.659 million lb in Jan-July ’16 to 156.437 million lb during the first seven months of 2017.
